Standard working week consists of 40 hours over a five-day working week, including a 30-minute lunch break. Full-time employment requires at least 36 hours a week.
Employees are entitled to at least four weeks (20 working days) of paid annual leave. Additional leave days are granted based on personal circumstances.
Severance pay is based on service length: 1/5 of the average salary for 1-10 years, 1/4 for 10-20 years, and 1/3 for over 20 years, with a cap of ten times the basic monthly salary.
Employer payroll contributions include 8.85% for Pension & Disability, 6.56% for Health Insurance, 0.06% for Unemployment, 0.53% for Work Injury, and 0.10% for Parental Care. Total Employment Cost is 16.10%.
The payroll frequency is monthly, with salaries usually paid on the last working day of each month. No 13th salary, but a mandatory Holiday allowance is paid by 30th June.
Fathers are entitled to 30 days of paternity leave with a benefit equaling 100% of the base amount, not exceeding 2.5 times the average monthly wage.
Termination process varies by agreement and includes regular and extraordinary dismissals. Notice period depends on service length and type of dismissal.
Permits are required for non-EU nationals to work in Slovenia, except for certain exceptions. Single permits for work and residence are issued by administrative units.

There are 13 public holidays in 2025, including New Year’s Day, Prešeren’s Day, Easter Monday, Labour Day, National Day, Assumption Day, Reformation Day, All Saints’ Day, Christmas Day, and Independence and Unity Day.
Employers must compensate employees for up to 30 days of sick leave. Compensation is 100% for work-related illness or accident, and usually 80% for regular sick leave.
Mothers receive 105 days of paid maternity leave, starting 28 days before the estimated birth date. Compensation is between 55% of minimum base salary and twice the average monthly salary.
The probation period can be no more than six months, as outlined in the employment contract.
