Mandatory benefits in Singapore
In Singapore, there is no universal minimum wage for all workers. However, there are sector-specific minimum wages, particularly for sectors like cleaning, security, and landscape. Working fathers can share up to 4 weeks of the 16 weeks of maternity leave, subject to the agreement of the mother. This leave is paid by the government and is applicable for children who are Singapore citizens.
Working fathers are entitled to 2 weeks of paid paternity leave if they meet certain conditions, including being legally married to the child’s mother and the child being a Singapore citizen. The leave is funded by the government.
Singapore observes 11 public holidays annually. Employees are entitled to a paid day off on these public holidays. If a holiday falls on a rest day, the following working day will be a paid holiday.
The retirement age in Singapore is 63 years, and employers are required to offer re-employment to eligible employees up to the age of 68. This policy aims to help older workers continue working and save more for retirement.
