Employee Payroll Contributions include 8% for local workers and 1% for expatriate workers for Social Insurance (GOSI), covering medical, retirement, and disability.
Employees with at least one year of service are entitled to 30 working days of paid annual leave. Leave entitlement cannot be lost and must be carried forward or paid out.
The working week is between 40 and 48 hours. During Ramadan, the working day is reduced to six hours. Friday is the rest day, but companies may choose Thursday or Saturday. No more than 11 hours of presence at the workplace, including breaks. Overtime should not exceed two hours per day with additional pay.
Private sector companies can decide whether to grant time off during public holidays. If employees work, they have the choice of a day off in lieu or 150% salary.
Salaried employees are paid at least once a month, generally at the end of the month. There is no requirement for a 13th salary payment.
Workers are entitled to 55 days of sick leave per year: 15 days at full pay, 20 days at half pay, and 20 days unpaid. Sick leave can be accumulated for up to 240 days.
There are various public holidays including New Year’s Day, Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Labour Day, and National Day. The number of public holidays varies each year.
Pregnant employees receive 75 days of maternity leave, with 60 days fully paid and 15 days unpaid. Additional two hours each day for nursing until the child is six months old.
Termination requires sufficient grounds and a notice period. Notice period is 30 days, 1 day during probation. Severance pay includes salary up to termination, notice payment, and EOSG.
There is no minimum wage in Bahrain.
Employer Payroll Contributions include 16% for Social Insurance (GOSI), reduced to 3% for expatriate workers, covering medical, retirement, and disability. 4.2% for End of Service Gratuity (EOSG), increasing to 8.4% from year 4 of service. Nationalization Fee varies by number of workers and industry for expatriate workers. BHD 10.00 for LMRA work permits.
Probation period is typically three months, extendable to six months for certain occupations. One day notice is required during probation.
Paternity leave entitlement is up to 5 days, but generally, companies offer 1 day of paid paternity leave.
