Mandatory benefits in Tunisia
Employees receive 66.7% of their daily average earnings for 180 days after a five-day waiting period. For up to 180 days a year for each next year, they receive 50%.
Probation period is set by sectoral collective agreements, ranging from 3 months to one year depending on the professional category.
Income tax rates based on salary brackets: 0% for 0-5,000 TND, 26% for 5,001-20,000 TND, 28% for 20,001-30,000 TND, 32% for 30,001-50,000 TND, 35% for 50,001 TND and above.
Female employees receive 30 days of leave. To receive 66.7% of their daily earnings, the employee must have contributed to social insurance for at least 80 days in the four quarters leading up to the birth.
For indefinite contracts, the employer must provide one month’s notice, given in writing. The notice period might be longer depending on the CBA category.
There are 15 public holidays per year.
Fathers receive one day of paid leave within the first seven days following the birth of the child.
Termination requires a significant and just cause and adherence to legal, regulatory, and collective agreement procedures. Employee has the right to appeal.
Employee payroll contributions include Social Security.
Minimum wage: 459.26 dinars per month for industrial and agricultural workers (40 hours), 390.69 dinars per month for non-agriculture sectors (48 hours).
Work-related injury leave: No qualifying period, but the accident must be reported within 48 hours and assessed. The injured employer will receive 66.7% of their average daily earnings.
Employees are paid either weekly or monthly no later than the end of the month.
A work week consists of 5 days and should not exceed 48 hours. A workday should not exceed 10 hours per day or 60 hours per week.
Employees receive one vacation day per month. After one year of work, they will accumulate 12 working days as paid time off.
Employees are entitled to severance pay, except in cases of serious fault. Payment is one day’s pay for each month of employment, up to three months’ pay.
